Archie Blackowl (Mis Tamoo To Va, Flying Hawk) studied at Fort Sill Indian School, OK; Haskell at Lawrence, Kansas; the University of Oklahoma, Norman; University of Kansas, Lawrence; Art Institure of Chicago; Rockefeller Art Center, New York, N.Y.; Washington D.C., School of Fine Arts. It was while studying diesel engineering in California that he began his drawing as a hobby. As his studies progressed he found that his ‘hobby’ was progressing faster and he chose to pursue art and the portrayal of his Native culture rather than engineering. Born in 1911, died 1992.
