Ambrose
Atencio
created this dough bowl in the Santo Domingo tradition. He
has been a potter since the 1980s and was taught the art by his
cousin, master potter Robert Tenorio. The quality of those lessons
and the years of hard work are reflected in the shape of his
pots and the fine execution of the traditional Santo Domingo
designs that Ambrose chooses to employ. (Photo
taken at the 2007 Santa Fe Indian Market.) This dough
bowl is a magnificent piece measuring 4.5 inches tall by 12.5 inches
wide - beautiful workmanship
The red lipped pot at left has
great shape, lines and color. It measures 7.75 inches tall by
8 inches wide. Your price $525 ~ Item #SD262 Click

The
materials for his pottery are collected locally at Santo Domingo
Pueblo in New Mexico. Ambrose fires his work using cottonwood
bark as did his
grandmother, Crucita Tortalita. He is now in
the process of teaching his son Elroy to work the clay.
At
right is the 1st of two classic Santo Domingo bird and flower
motif pots. They are very well done with good form, graphics and
color. The pot at right measures 8 inches tall by 9 inches wide.

Market; The Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show;
the Dallas Indian Arts and Crafts Fair; plus several awards at
the Santa Fe Indian Market including Best of Class and Best of
Category. His work has been published or reviewed in several publications
including Dr. Gregory Schaaf’s "Southern Pueblo Pottery:
2000 Artist Biographies", Native People’s Magazine,
and other periodicals.
The pot at left has perfect shape
and some unique design elements to it in the bird graphic and
the use of colors. It measures 8 inches tall by 9 inches wide.

The
bowl at right, bottom, has great shape and well executed designs
of a grey-black which Ambrose states is an intentional effect.
The birds are uncommon in that they are facing left and have
pressed back crowns. Although the thicker, finger-like tail
feathers are often seen the two pointed tail feathers are more
common to Zia. The bowl has thin slip in an area causing
the clay red to be visible upon close examination as you'll
see in the enlargements provided. This pot has considerable
quality and charm. It measures 9.5 inches tall by 10.5 inches
wide. Your
price $650 ~ Item #SD248.
Warren
Coriz bears
the last name of one of Santo Domingo's most famous families
- creators
of fine pottery, amazing jewelry and all manner of Native American
arts and crafts. Warren is in his late 30s and has been making
pottery for only a few years but he shows tremendous promise.
Warren learned his potting techniques from famed potter
Robert
Tenorio and continues
to study under Robert today. Warren
is an up and coming artist and has improved so quickly that we
believe he is going to give Robert a run for his money.
(Photo taken at home, 2007 )
At top, and right, is a great piece by Warren
featuring a new turtle motif that includes a turtle lid. The graphics
are very original, detailed and of solid colors with an excellent
sense of motion as the turtles seem in motion around the pot.
Warren's originality combined with traditional symbols make his
work
At left is another outstanding Warren Coriz pot
with a square mouth and measuring 10 inches tall by 10 inches
wide. We got a great price so we are passing it on to you. We
don't think the opportunity will be here long so take advantage
of it if you can. Your price $750 ~ Item
